10 things to do in Perhentian

Perhentian is a super chillax island, and come with loads of fun, be sure to spend enough times because you will just love it.

1. Private beach hop
Plenty of spaces for you, there are a few inhabitant beaches such as romantic beach, blue lagoon and rawa island. Get a boat taxi service or kayak to get there, enjoy the white beautiful beach, there is zero facilities over here, remember to bring some drinking water and snacks for more enjoyment. please do not litter (although you might see lot of debris)

2. Snorkeling
Snorkeling trip available daily in the morning or noon session, for some extras, worth to try night snorkeling. Average price MYR40-50/person (with gears) for 4-5spots including turtle and shark point. Among popular snorkeling sites is blue lagoon, turtlebay, shark point, d'lagoon, rawa and light house. All resort/chalet rent out snorkeling gear and arrange snorkeling trip, just need to confirm the times.

3. Scuba diving
Perhentian gaining the reputation as the best diving destination in peninsular Malaysia, with more than 20dive sites, and neighbouring Redang and Lang Tengah island just adding to the varieties, in combination, you probably get 50dive sites. The top 3dive sites will goes to temple of the sea, terumbu tiga and sugar wreck. There are about 25 dive centre around perhentians, cost are calculated per dive and might be slight differ, take safety as priority. Diving courses are offered by all the dive centre on the daily basis, however, pre-book is highly recommended to get excellence instructor.

4. Go Kayak
Single and twin kayak can be rented from most operators along all the beaches, check the condition of the kayak before going out. Let the owner know if you are going for far such round the islands, at least they will call for search and rescue if you didn't come back after 7pm. Rental average MYR10/hour or MYR30/day.

5. Trekking
You can actually trekking big island or small island, for big island, you may crossed to 3 beaches and 3jungles (teluk pauh, teluk dalam and teluk kk beach), while small island you may do longer throughout the island including long beach, village, petani, coralbay, bukit lagoon and windmill. Both are easy, time needed about 3-4h each.

6. Beach front bb-q dinner
Just walk down the beaches and choose your favourite spot or restaurant/cafe, do check with the staff in advanced, because it could be tricky and bbq isn't available sometimes. Most probably coralbay is the best place as it is facing the wide sunset, plus, during the high-tide, your toes might be touching to the sea water while seating.

7. Sunbath
Get tan by being lazy, alternate with swimming could be great. There is no dress code in perhentian island except for the village where you will see a sign board to dress properly. No worry, bikini is common here. If you prefer to just enjoy the whisper of the winds, umbrella rental is available, or you may just lay under the trees.

8. Sunset
Coralbay is the best place to enjoy the sunset, its facing direct west, a little unfortunate a huge jetty were build last few years(well, you may walk to the jetty itself to enjoy the sunset). Bonus is sunset dinner by the beach.

9. Get close to the shark/turtle
Snorkel with turtle is always guaranteed from the snorkeling trip, teluk pauh is the best place to spot them, snorkel or free diving to get close to the turtles, the depth is merely 3-5m, don't be sad if you can just float at the surface, kick slowly following the turtle and they will come up to the surface to breathe. While shark is more challenging, there were pretty shy here, the best part about shark in perhentian is 'zero shark attack' recorded so far, so its pretty safe to snorkel at shark point.

10. Recreational research/ volunteer
You could start your own research or project for turtles, sharks, coral reef or any other marine related topics. There are a few conservation organisation in perhentian island. it could be your interest topic.
